The only thing we love more than seeing photos of trophy fish caught on a BlackJack is hearing from satisfied owners, especially those who use their BlackJack boats for a living. We recently caught up with Capt. Bruce Baugh, owner of Tideline Charters in Lake Calcasieu, Louisiana, and asked him a few questions about why he trusts BlackJack.
(FYI, Capt. Bruce is featured in our brochure, which you can order by mail or download — for free!)
How long have you known the Kenners?
I have been on the Kenner Pro Staff since 1997. My first Kenner hull was a roll edge 1997 Model 2104. I then moved up to the Kenner Vision, a liner hull similar to the current K2 Frontier. I had several of those hulls through the years.
Is there a BlackJack boat model you prefer? If so, why?
I am currently ordering my fifth BlackJack 224, a 2020 model. I just love the BlackJack 224! The 224 is ideal for prowling the shallow bayou marsh ponds of Louisiana. I can lower my trim tabs and jump up in about a foot of water. The 224 also allows me to cross some of the roughest water the open bay has to offer. My customers are always commenting on the smooth and dry ride as we cross the rough and bumpy chop.
If asked, how would you describe your BlackJack boats to customers?
I believe the BlackJack is not only the best hull on the water, but she is also has the looks! The BlackJack always gets compliments on the water — and off, just sitting on its custom TrailStar Trailer.
Personally, what are your favorite features and/or options of the BlackJack?
I really enjoy the new center console. I have my 12-inch Garmin GPS flush mounted. Also, the easy access drop down door and tackle box inside.
With the Coastal now out, what are its features you're most excited about, or that you think customers will enjoy?
I saw the new Coastal 256 at the New Orleans Boat Show. The wide open aft area was quite impressive — plenty of room to reel in the big one!
